Learning Classical Music through Stories Key Stage 1Key Stage 2CD

IMP are pleased to be able to introduce the first two of six fabulous books with full colour illustrations, aimed at children aged 6 - 10, and for use at school or at home.

Each book comes with a CD of a piece of classical music. Read the story, see the pictures and hear the music at the same time, to have a wonderful three dimensional experience.

If you ask children what they think of classical music they often say 'It's boring.' That's an understandable reaction. Classical music doesn't have the immediacy of pop, rock, rap etc It lacks a constant even beat, lacks lyrics and is usually longer than the average pop song. However, pieces such as The Sorcerer's Apprentice usually prove very popular with young children. Why? Because they have strong, contrasting dynamics, are very descriptive and best of us, they have a story. It is the story, when combined with illustrations that is the instant attraction. Many pieces of classical music either do not have a story at all or have an inappropriate one - too long, too old, too complicated... This series uses original, exciting stories inspired by short interesting pieces of music from a variety of different cultures. At home this is a great way to introduce children to classical music.

At school it is a triple resource. Year 2 - 6 teachers will find the book and CD combination both wonderfully stimulating and totally relevant as a resource for music, art and literacy. At the front of each set of books we hear from a different two teachers, one generalist and one specialist, who have found scope for huge projects generated by the children's enjoyment of the work as well as the modern, original feel of the books. 'Every teacher's dream!' says one teacher..

Wasp Alert in Minibug Bonanzaland The minibeasts who live in Minibug Bonanzaland are thrown into panic when the ferocious Stinger wasps invade their peace without warning. Bonanzaland's friendly bee protectors, the Buzzers, are nowhere to be seen, and the spiders are struggling to build a huge enough web in time. And where are the ants? The Crane Fly spotted them high in the trees earlier, but now they seem to have disappeared altogether. A heavy sadness pervades Bonanzaland.......

Story and illustration blend with the evocative music of the 'Wasps Overture' by Ralph Vaughan Williams, to provide three dimensional inspiration for children.

On her roller coaster ride on the cloud train Chloe is horrified to see Jake struggling to cling to the back of the giant bird and when he falls down and down into oblivion her heart stands still. How are they to get back to the attic ?

Story and illustration blend with the wonderfully descriptive music of 'Omphale's Spinning Wheel' by Camille Saint-Saëns, to provide three dimensional inspiration for children.
