Alongside her teaching career Ann has simultaneously developed a career as a well-established children’s author. She is currently writing a series of books called Step-Chain, for 10 – 13 year olds, published during 2001, 2002 and 2003 by Egmont. Her other current series is called Make
In March 2002 IMP published her book Teaching Key Stage 1 Music, which is a complete, step-by-step scheme of work devised to help generalist teachers cope with teaching music. Her Teaching Foundation Music is also now available.
Ann’s classroom experience and total involvement with children has provided the basis for all the general musicianship ideas that permeate her unique piano course Keyclub and her two beginners’ recorder tutors Play Straight Away. She has also published over a hundred songs, and written scripts, stories and songs for various Schools’ Radio programmes, as well as the theme tune and incidental music to children’s TV programme, Tales of Aesop.
Apart from writing and teaching, Ann gives talks and workshops as an author and educationalist in this country and abroad. She says, I suppose that at the root of my philosophy lies the simple aim always to teach first the child and second the subject.
Ann's book Teaching Key Stage 1 has won the 2002 Music Industry Awards' "Music Publisher's Best New Product".
